Award-winning Sky Sports News presenter Hayley McQueen has said Sam Allardyce “would have been great” as England manager.

hayley-mcqueenMcQueen, daughter of former Scotland international Gordon McQueen, believes that the former Sunderland boss’ personality would have made him ideal for the position.

She said: “I thought finally they have character, [Allardyce] is a bit of a lad, he’ll get the team spirit going.

“We’ve tried good managers and that hasn’t worked, so why not get a personality in?”

“You saw how much he wanted it so bad, it was just such a shame that he’s ruined it for himself and probably ruined his career.

“I don’t know if he’ll work in football again, who knows?”

McQueen, 36, speaking at UCFB Wembley, thinks Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be the best candidate to replace Allardyce.

“Wenger might be okay because at least he’s experienced, but he’s never won anything so how is he going to win anything with England?” she said.

“But then they’re far from that.”

McQueen also noted her appreciation for former England boss Roy Hodgson, who she called a “great fit” for the job, and a “good person”.
