Four London 2017 British world champions to go head-to-head in mouthwatering women’s sprint race. Richard Whitehead will also race at the finale of the UK athletics season

Newly crowned London 2017 World Para Athletics champions Sophie Hahn (200m T38, 100m T38), Georgina Hermitage (400m T37, 100m T37), Kadeena Cox(400m T38) and Olivia Breen (long jump T38) will face-off in a thrilling T37/38 100m at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday 20 August.

Hahn and Hermitage are also both Rio Paralympic champions in the 100m in their respective classifications, while Cox, who won silver in the 100m T38 in London behind Hahn, is also the T38 400m Paralympic champion.

Hahn, a four-time world gold medallist said: “To have four British world champions going head-to-head at a huge event like Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, just a few weeks after the World Para Athletics Championships in London will be amazing.

“We’ll all want to win and give the crowd a great show, and it is great to have Para events integrated into a high profile international meet in the UK.”

Richard Whitehead, who was also victorious at the recent World Para Athletics Championships, will also be among the star names at the Alexander Stadium. The double Paralympic and four-time world 200m T42 champion will race in the 200m again in Birmingham.

A host of Olympic and world medallists will compete at the prestigious IAAF Diamond League meeting, which will be the culmination of an outstanding summer of global athletics events in the UK and include Mo Farah’s last ever track race on home soil.

Whitehead said: “It’s fantastic that the British crowd will get a chance to see Britain’s top Para athletes compete at a major Diamond League meeting like the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, especially as it will be Mo Farah’s last ever track race in the UK .

“It will be a chance for us to say thank you to the crowds that that love athletics in all its forms and have supported us along the road to London and throughout this incredible summer.”

Joan Durose, lead officer for Birmingham City Council, who support and help organise the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, said: “We are delighted that some of the stars of the World Para Athletics Championships will be at the Alexander Stadium for the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham. Their performances in London were so impressive  and after they wowed the crowds in the capital, it is so exciting that people in Birmingham will now have the perfect opportunity to come and watch them compete.”

The Müller Grand Prix Birmingham and takes place exactly one week after the end of the IAAF World Championships in London which run from 4-13 August.
