Conor McGregor Could Cause £250m KO For Bookmakers
Monday 21st August
With just five days to go until potentially the biggest boxing match of all time, the bookmakers are fearful of a McGregor win against Floyd Mayweather. A win for the Irishman could see bookies around the world pay out up to £250m.
“We are fearing a McGregor win because people are backing him like he can’t lose,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Around the world bookmakers are looking at taking around £100m which will far surpass the turnover of any fight before but the book is so one-sided that should McGregor win, the industry will end up handing over £250m to punters who have backed him.”
McGregor’s odds have tumbled since the book first opened and he is 3/1 (from 11/2) to win while Mayweather is 1/4 (from 1/10).
