After the first day of betting on the next permanent Scotland boss, William Hill can report that David Moyes is not just the favourite with the bookies but also with punters as well. His odds have been cut from 11/4 to 6/4 having attracted 31% of all wagers with the next best backed contender, 6/1 shot Paul Lambert, attracting 17%.

Malky Mackay is the 9/2 second favourite but has failed to spark the imaginations and has attracted just 5% of all bets.

“David Moyes seems to be the people’s choice and his odds of taking over from Gordon Strachan have been tumbling since the market was released on Thursday afternoon,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Next permanent Scotland manager: 6/4 David Moyes; 9/2 Malky Mackay; 6/1 Michael O’Neil; 6/1 Paul Lambert; 8/1 Sam Allardyce; 14/1 Alex McLeish; 14/1 Derek McInnes; 25/1 BAR

Odds from William Hill correct as of 1100 Friday 13th October.
