CHAMPIONS TENNIS AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL PARTNERS WITH CHARITY SPORTSAID
Thursday 19th October 2017
Each year SportsAid supports over 1,000 athletes, the majority aged between 12 and 18, by providing a financial award to help towards training and competition costs. Since its formation in 1976, SportsAid has supported tens of thousands of athletes during the early stages of their careers; Sir Mo Farah, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Baronness Grey-Thompson, Dame Sarah Story, Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame Katherine Grainger are among its extensive alumni. The charity’s impressive track record was highlighted at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games where SportsAid alumni won 150 medals. This included 46 of Team GB’s 67 medals and 104 of Paralympics GB’s 147 medals. Since 2003, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been a Patron of SportsAid and has met many young talented athletes helped by the charity, as well as Olympians and Paralympians who were previous beneficiaries at fundraising events, training days and performance workshops.
Charlie Grave, IMG Tennis said: “Champions Tennis is thrilled to be partnering with SportsAid again this year. SportsAid is a unique charity that supports the growth of young British athletes into sporting champions and we are delighted to be a part of raising awareness for the organisation and its core mission to help young talent.”
Tim Lawler, Chief Executive of SportsAid, said: “Being involved again with the Champions Tennis is fantastic for SportsAid. It’s a brilliant event at an iconic venue and the players involved are among the best ambassadors for their sport. To be invited back after last year’s success is a real honour for SportsAid and perhaps reflects what a great fit there is between the event and the cause – championing sport for the good of sport. SportsAid is a relatively small charity but one with a big role in British sport, helping the next generation of our sporting champions, and it is events like the Champions Tennis that help us to tell that story to more people.”
SportsAid will host a charity session on the evening of Friday 1st December 2017, which will include:
- Performances by SportsAid ambassador and sporting soprano, Laura Wright
- Special courtside appearances from recent Olympians, Paralympians and world champions
- Exclusive fundraising raffle and activities throughout the session
