Are England right to drop Pietersen?

Yesterday Kevin Pietersen announced to the world - via twitter - that he had been dropped from the England squad for the upcoming limited overs series against Pakistan.

It seems the England and Wales Cricket Board decided that the best way for Pietersen to rediscover his form was to send him back to county cricket. In KP's case this means a move from Hampshire to Surrey on a short term contract.

So are England right to drop Pietersen and send him back to play county cricket ahead of the huge Ashes series in Australia? Or Would it have made more sense to play the 30-year-old in the T20 and one day series where he can play his usual attacking game?

Have England made the right choice or will Pietersen be struggling with a lack of confidence by the time we play Australia?
