Can England cope without their captain?

With the news that England captain Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of the World Cup, how will the rest of the team cope with the loss?

Although Ferdinand had missed most of the season through injury it seemed he was certain to start alongside John Terry. Now that Rio has been ruled out, who should partner the Chelsea centre back?

Will the added pressure of captaincy get to Steven Gerrard or will the Liverpool skipper thrive under pressure?
