Already a successful amateur, James ‘Chunky’ DeGale became a household name when he fought his way to gold for Britain at the Beijing Olympics two years ago. Since turning professional with promoter Frank Warren, DeGale has continued that winning form and has an unblemished 8-0 record. Sportsvibe got his thoughts on Saturday’s hotly-anticipated showdown between David Haye and Audley Harrison.
"I think David Haye is going to win within six rounds. He’s going to win because he’s too fast and too explosive. Audley has got all the skills to pay the bills, but I’m not sure if he’s got the heart to play the part.”
James DeGale’s charity choice is Everyman
Everyman's mission is to stamp out testicular and prostate cancer. This can be achieved by making everyone recognise the tell-tale signs, and by understanding the importance of treating them. www.everyman-campaign.org
Mr Betdaq
David Haye and Audley Harrison have certainly talked a good game since the fight between the ‘best of enemies’ was announced but the bookies will tell you that this one could be over very quickly.
The Hayemaker is a massive odds-on jolly at a best-price of 2/11 on Betdaq so no one’s going to get rich backing the South Londoner at that price. Some don’t even give 5/1-shot Harrison a puncher’s chance but the southpaw has shown in the past that he can soak up the punishment and unleash a knock-out blow with his ferocious left.
That’s not to say I reckon A-Force will win, but this bout represents his first – and most likely his last – shot at a world title so he will be determined to avoid an embarrassment at the hands of his former friend and sparring partner. The Sydney Olympic heavyweight champion can certainly use his height and reach advantage to hold Haye off for longer than the first three rounds.
James DeGale’s assessment that the champ will retain his belt and win inside six rounds looks pretty accurate to me, though. Haye should do it by KO, TKO or DQ – an eventuality that can be backed at 1/3 on Betdaq – but it might be better to back a round for him to win in at enhanced odds and round six is an 11/1 chance.
