Craig Gower Makes Andy Powell Look Like Mother Theresa!

Andy Powell's escapades last week with a golf buggy may have made headline news, but there is another international rugby player currently in the RBS Six Nations whose golf buggy antics make Powell seem like Mother Theresa. Step forward Australian turned Italian hooker Craig Gower. In a career littered with off-field controversy, most of which appears to be alcohol-fuelled, dual-code exponent Gower's piece de resistance was when he was fired as the Penrith Panthers captain in 2005 for the following: at a golf charity event he is reported to have argued with several guests, groped the teenage daughter of former league player Wayne Pearce, chased Pearce's son with a bottle before vomiting on him, streaked around the resort, wrecked a golf buggy, held a butter knife to the throat of a Sydney Radio personality and threw the knife at resort guests before being kicked out of the function by security. Gower was fined $100,000 by the NRL and given a "final warning." One wonders why it took security so long to eject him. One also wonders how Gower had the temerity to complain later about the Panthers failure to defend his reputation. Anyway, in light of this news Sportsvibe has two messages for the beleaguered Powell - all sins are forgiven, and never play a round of golf with Gower.
