I was rooting for Roger Federer yesterday during the men's singles final at Wimbledon despite the fact that Andy Roddick has been pure class over the past fortnight, both on and off the court. Any man who can present "Saturday Night Live" as Roddick has done is OK with me. Still, I wanted to see Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slam titles go, and I wanted Federer to be the man to do it, especially after a couple of hours spent with the man in Dubai last year in which he bent over backwards to accommodate my requirements as an interviewer, even to the extent of taking off his shoes and socks and paddling in the sea for photographs when he should have been on the practice court. Check out his self-deprecating take of "Saturday Night Fever" on sportsvibe TV as well. But I have one, small plea. The "RF" logos, the golden "15" he is now sporting on his slightly ridiculous garb he insists on wearing when entering the court smacks of arrogance, which would be a wrong impression of a sporting superstar nicer than any of his contemporaries who presently sit at the very top table of sporting deity.
