Attention Foreign Cricketers - Come to Chislehurst and We'll Make You International Stars!

Faisal Hossain

Great excitement at my local cricket club, Chislehurst and West Kent, for whom I occasionally turn out for today with the news that Faisal Hossain, the club's very own "overseas player" from two years' ago was part of the Bangladesh team that lost their first one-day international to England. Although not setting the world alight Faisal, a lovely bloke, by the way, scored 8 not out runs in 9 balls batting at number 8 in the order, took a catch on the boundary to dismiss Craig Kieswetter and bowled 6 tidy overs for 26 runs, which included a missed stumping. All in all a decent day's work-out for the man who bagged loads of wickets and scored plenty of runs too for Chislehurst in Division 5 of the Kent League. In two years that is some leap up the ladder to be playing against England but that's the beauty of Chislehurst and West Kent. It creates stars! I'm happy to report that Faisal's success means that I, having played for England against Switzerland on the frozen lake in St Moritz the other year, am no longer the only international cricketer at the club!!
