South Africa v South Africa Should Be An Epic Cricket Challenge This Winter

Kevin Pietersen

The other team in world cricket who will be celebrating England's Ashes series win over Australia will be South Africa who, as a result, leapfrog over the Aussies to become the number one ranked test team in the world. And guess who they play next? That's right, England, this winter, over four tests, down in South Africa. This may provoke some confusion, however, over which of the two are actually the home team, seeing that England captain Andrew Strauss and wicketkeeper Matthew Prior were both born in South Africa. Still, at least they have English accents, which is more than can be said for Kevin Pietersen and new boy Jonathan Trott, who should form a formidable middle order. In all intents and purposes, but for the dodgy rules of eligibility in international sport, Pietersen and Trott are 100% South African, whose blood pours green and gold, and who will enjoy the odd brai (that's barbecue to you and me) when they return to their mother country. Not that we should complain, mind you. Word has it that the ECB, even in their hour of Ashes glory, are asking Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and Herschelle GIbbs if they have any English grandparents!
