Is Messi The Best in the World?

Lionel Messi

So now we know. Wayne Rooney's been on fire for Manchester United, Ronaldo likewise for Real Madrid but even they may admit Lionel Messi's four-goal demolition of Arsenal last night makes the diminutive Argentinian officially the world's number one footballer. A thunderbolt of a shot, a deft touch followed by a fierce finish, a beautiful chip over the advancing keeper and a low drive nutmegging Manuel Almunia! The only feat the little magician failed to pull off was a diving header into the roof of the net! Teams will now try and kick him to bits, just as they did so successfully to Pele in the 1962 World Cup. The thought of having Messrs Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney and company at the World Cup this summer in South Africa is truly exciting, but let us hope - for football's sake - that Messi is allowed to show off his talent in its full glory, and not be clattered continuously to the ground by a  central defender whose only intention is to injure him. Unless it's England, of course!
