Pienaar Destined for White Hart Lane in January

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar looks set to make the switch to Tottenham Hotspur in January, with his current manager David Moyes conceding the South African is likely to be sold soon.

Pienaar turned down the offer of a new £60,000-a-week contract from Everton, with the 28-year-old desperate to play for a side competing in a European competition.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a keen admirer of Pienaar and believes he may be able to sign the creative midfielder for as little as £2 million. With his contract set to expire in the summer, Everton boss David Moyes has conceded he may need to sell the player soon to ensure he does not depart Goodison Road on a free transfer.

"It may well come to it in the January transfer window that we have to consider selling Pienaar to raise money," the Everton boss stated.

"We need a striker but, realistically the sort of money we will raise through that route, what type of player is it going to buy us?"

"I would love Steven Pienaar to stay, but I am already resigned to losing him at the end of the season.â€Â

With Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley both likely to be leaving White Hart Lane after finding themselves out of Redknapp’s plans, there will be room in the Spurs squad for a player of Pienaar’s quality.

Redknapp has displayed an eye for a bargain in his signing of Niko Kranjcar for just £2 million last season, and will be able to offer Pienaar European football at a club making waves near the top end of the Premier League.

Redknapp tried to sign the South African in the last transfer window, displaying a clear desire to add the talent to an increasingly strong Spurs midfield, but he is likely to face competition from across Europe given the cut-price nature of such a transfer.
