Is Vettel the New Schumi?

Picture 232

Two Grands Prix completed, two wins for Sebastian Vettel, or four in a row, and five out of six if you include the back end of last season which culminated in the young German claiming his first of what many suspect will be many world championships.

It is too early to say he has the 2011 world title wrapped up as well, way too early. You can bet that Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber may want to have a say in this. But would you seriously bet against it? Back in the small German town of Kerpen there are certain individuals who are going about their business with a knowing smile.

Eight years' ago I spent a day in Michael Schumacher country, racing karts around the same kart circuit in Kerpen where Schumi learnt his trade. I'll always remember what the track manager said to me that day.

"We have another German who will take over from Schumi and become possibly as great as him. His name is Sebastian Vettel. He's still just a boy, but you watch."

Well, I've watched and so far there is little to suggest our German friends are not spot on with their prediction, which could be very bad news for Lewis, Jenson and the rest.
