Louis and the Gymnasts are on a Roll!

Louis Smith

I had the pleasure of the company of a 21-year-old yesterday called Louis Smith who, if you have not heard of him, is Britain's Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and world championships silver medallist from just last week on the pommel horse.

The young man is impressive, that's for sure, not just for his talent and work ethic, but for the way he presents himself. Someone who is prepared to give the X Factor a go clearly isn't lacking in the self-confidence department, but to nail a world silver in a programme on the horse that saw him fall off during last year's worlds performing the very similar move reveals perseverance and an unshakebale belief in his destiny.

That destiny is London 2012 and while, right now, we may all be excited about Jessica Ennis, Rebecca Adlington, Victoria Pendleton et al, watch out for Louis, Beth Tweddle, Dan Keatings and the other GB gymnasts. They are, if you excuse the pun, on a roll and 2012 may well prove to be the greatest couple of weeks in the history of the sport on these shores.
