I love sporting success stories that begin with ridicule and intimidation and end with glory, and few examples are better than that of Mr Skateboarding, Tony Hawk, best-known now for his multi-million sales in video games. Hawk was bullied by his schoolboy associates during his childhood days in San Diego because he chose to skate-board rather than play American Football or basketball. They ridiculed and made fun of him, and sometimes they even physically bullied him. Hawk, they viewed, was wasting his time with an activity that had enjoyed its five minutes in the sun, and was now on the way out. Thankfully Hawk did not share this view, which is why he not only became the greatest known skate-boarder and extreme sportsman in the world, but also launched a video games empire which has brought him millions and millions of dollars. Meanwhile does anyone know what happened to his teenage "buddies?" And, more to the point, does anyone care? Let's just hope they know all about Hawk's career! Hear Hawk's story on Sportsvibe TV.
