KELLEHER FOR YOUTH

All Blacks star brings sporting values and healthy life style to the heart of the community.

This morning the Stade toulousain’s halfback Byron Kelleher one of the world’s top rugby players launched a new charity concept in partnership with PriceMinister (http://www.priceminister.co.uk/ ). He will open an on-line shop for one month and all profits will go towards his association ”Kelleher for Youth”.

The man with the 58 caps for the All Blacks uses his celebrity for a charitable cause.

Byron Kelleher, the brave, pugnacious player is known as well for his talent and vivacity on the pitch as for the generosity he has shown towards rugby fans and kids beyond the stadiums.

His association “Kelleher for Youth” founded this year aims to finance educational projects and community work that use sporting values and team spirit as a center point.

To celebrate the France Vs New Zealand game on the 28th of November in Marseille, Adidas has generously donated All Blacks shirts and Balls to Byron Kelleher. They were all signed by the rugby man himself in PriceMinister’s headquarters in Paris and will go up for sale on his online shop: http://www.priceminister.co.uk/boutique/BKforyouth

All revenues from sales are given to the “KELLEHER FOR YOUTH” association whose goal is to help young men and women in their education and personal development.

Kelleher for Youth, aims to promote education and youth integration in the world of sustainable development and sports, by financing community & environmental work especially:

- Developing children’s awareness of environmental evolution and giving them the means to contribute to the planets wellbeing

- Communicative actions that bring sustainable solutions for youth

- Setting up innovative environmental protection programs and facilitating cultural exchange

- Nutrition and well being programs

- Integration through Sport programs

They do so by working hand in hand with local NGO’s and other associations.

The Charity also has their own educational programs that always bring sporting values

and healthy life style to the heart of the community.

Top British yachtsman, Alex Thomson is currently competing in The Transat Jacques Vabre, a two handed 4,720 mile transatlantic sprint that started from Le Havre on November 8th.

Alex is sailing his Open 60 HUGO BOSS alongside his co-skipper, long time boat captain Ross Daniel. What’s more you can join the guys on board by clicking the following video link

AlexThomson, 33 year-old record breaking sailor, is a major talent in international yachting. Alex first came to prominence at the age of 25 when he became the youngest skipper ever to win a round-the-world yacht race when he won the 1998-1999 Clipper Race.

Following that early success, in 2000 he won the Round Britain & Ireland Race on an Open 50 "Sail that Dream" in a record time of 10 days which still stands.   In 2005 Alex became the first skipper to sign up for the 3 in 3 – 3 round the world races in 3 years starting with the Velux 5 Oceans in 2006,

followed by the Barcelona World Race (BWR) in November 2007, and culminating in the 2008 Vendee Globe   Alex was forced to retire from the Velux 5 Oceans due to severe structural problems. He overcame the Southern Ocean by achieving a second place podium finish in the Barcelona World Race. Whilst on this race Alex smashed the 60ft monohull world distance record and was in excellent shape for the Vendée Globe.   However, only 3 weeks before the Vendée was due to commence,

Alex was dramatically struck by a French fishing vessel. His team fought against the clock to finish the repairs in record time to achieve the impossible - and get Alex to the start line.   As a race favourite, Alex’s dreams to become the first Briton to win the much coveted title were shattered after only 3 days racing; when he discovered HUGO BOSS was letting in water.

On inspecting the damage to HUGO BOSS it was determined that it could not be repaired in time to get Alex back in the race. Devastated, Alex announced his retirement from the Vendée. He is determined to return and compete in the 2012 alongside his long standing sponsor Hugo Boss, and achieve his dream to become the first Briton to win the Vendée Globe.

REMEMBER REMEMBER THE MONTH OF MOVEMBER!

Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer. And this year sportsvibe is excited to announce we will be getting behind the charity for the whole of November.

Last year, across the World more than 173,000 Mo Bro & Sistas got on board, raising more than £14 million for charity. Since Movember started in 2003 more than £30 million has been raised for the fight against prostate cancer and depression in men.

Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, start Movember (November 1st) clean-shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache. The participating Mo bro raises money for the Prostate Cancer Charity by getting his ‘Mo’ sponsored. At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Parties are held to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their support and fund raising efforts.

Facts and Figures

•   Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. A quarter of all new cases of cancer diagnosed in men are prostate cancers.
•   In 2009, more than 40,000 men in the UK were diagnosed with prostate cancer.
•   Over the last 30 years prostate cancer rates in Great Britain have almost tripled, although much of the increase is due to increased detection through widespread use of the PSA test.
•   Almost 60% of prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men aged over 70 years.
•   Around 300,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in Europe each year. The lowest rates are in Southern and Eastern Europe and the highest rates are in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
•   Worldwide, more than 670,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. The highest rates are in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Western and Northern Europe whilst the lowest rates are in East and South Central Asia.
