Remember the very first pair of football boots you ever laced up for a kick-around down the local rec? If you are anything like Sportsvibe (heaven forbid), you will like it was yesterday. Our boot of choice? Undoubtedly the PUMA “Kings”; lightweight yet durable, the ‘Kings’ would caress your feet with the care of a doting butler.
We were not alone in our unerring worship; Pele, Mario Kempes, Diego Maradona, Lothar Matthaus and Rudi Voller all sported the “Kings” at various stages of their respectively illustrious careers. OK, so pulling on the same boot as Pele never meant pulling off the same tricks, but we looked and felt pretty special.
Steeped in undeniable tradition, the brand has now launched it’s latest addition to the PUMA product portfolio; the PowerCat 1.12 is a performance boot combining the most advanced PUMA technologies available.
Joining existing PUMA assets in Nemanja Vidic, Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini is the latest global ambassador of the PowerCat, Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish World Cup winner officially launched the boot during Saturday’s FC Barcelona match against Sevilla.
“The boot seriously impressed me,” Fabregas explained after the fixture. “Playing in midfield is so physical, I need a boot that gives me power and protection, but comfort is also really important and this boot offers it all. The PowerCat 1.12 is without doubt the best boot for me that I have tried, and gives me a lot of confidence to perform on the pitch.”
Scientifically speaking, the PowerCat 1.12 features the new PUMA 3D DUO Power Shooting Technology, applied to the kicking area on the inside of the boot. Struggling to keep up already? Did we mention it is also made from a thermoplastic material with two different degrees of hardness? This allows the boot to remain both highly responsive with extremely high rebound properties.
Then there is the newly created PUMA 3D PST DUO technology; a development that enables impressive grip on the ball through its exposed elements, increasing the kicking power of the player.
The PUMA PowerLast - an evolution of the preceding PUMA AptoLast - follows the foot’s natural contours, providing a glove-like feet allowing the upper to mould to players fit. Coupled with the stable yet flexible outsole, the PowerCat 1.12 gives the best possible comfort.
If all of this scientific spiel has you puzzled beyond belief, you are perhaps more like Sportsvibe than initially feared. If that is the case, join us in picking up and putting on a pair; we haven't taken ours off for days now, and there isn't even grass in the office.
The boot will be available in stores from the 1st December 2011.
