It received surprisingly small headlines in the sports pages over the past couple of days but Sportsvibe, at least, would like to congratulate everyone at BMW Oracle Racing for winning the America's Cup with their magnificent boat, "USA 17," which trounced holders "Alinghi" 2-0 in the best of three challenge in Valencia, thus ending the dominance of land-locked Switzerland on the oldest and most prestigious trophy in world sailing. Let's hope now the event can heed the words of BOR's skipper, Russell Coutts, who has just notched up an incredible fourth America's Cup win. The Kiwi wants the boats to return to a more traditional state where the best sailors win the day. Moreover, he wants an end to all the litigation that has flown around both teams for the past two years. The real winners of the 2010 America's Cup, after all, have been the lawyers. Finally, he wants the creation of an America's Cup governing body that will pass judgement on everything concerning the event, thus preventing the damaging accusations and spats that have so marred what should be a fabulous advert for sailing. I can only echo all these points.
