Arsenal missed out on the chance to sign Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho as a last minute bid falls short ahead of the 11pm deadline.  According to the Metro, Arsenal made a bid for Carvalho, amidst the rumours of a deal for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, which have since been rubbished by the Gunners, but fell short of Sporting’s asking price.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on a season-long loan.  The 26-year-old Mexican forward joined United from Guadalajara in 2010, but after failing to cement a regular first-team starting place grew increasingly frustrated and has now been allowed to leave the club on loan.According to BBC Sport, a move has been completed on an initial one-season loan with a view to make the move permanent next summer.

Newcastle United have entered to race to sign Jermain Defoe from MLS side Toronto FC.  QPR were thought to be in pole position to land the 31-year-old striker, however, according to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are now rivalling the Londoners to the signing of Defoe on an initial loan deal with a view to make it permanent next summer.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes manager Arsene Wenger should sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, before the transfer window slams shut.  Last season, Cavani scored 16 league goals for Paris Saint-Germain and the club have reportedly slapped a £50million price-tag on the Uruguayan hotshot.
