Stimpson Strikes Gold

England’s Jodie Stimpson has won the first medal of the 2014 Commonwealth Games after taking gold in the triathlon.  Stimpson began to pull away in the 10km run and surged away from Canada’s Kirsten Sweetland and compatriot Vicky Holland, who took the silver and bronze respectively.

Team England have today confirmed that Mo Farah will not compete at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.  Despite making good progress in his recovery from a recent illness, Farah has taken the decision to remain at his training base in Font Romeu to return to full fitness in time for the European Championships in Zurich.

Heptathlon star Katarina Johnson-Thompson has withdrawn from England’s Commonwealth Games team for Glasgow under medical advice with a foot injury.The 21 year old was set to take part in the heptathlon at the Games starting next week, but has been advised against participation by the medical support team.
