Andy Murray completed a ruthless win over Edouard Roger-Vasselin to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

The British number one required just 23 minutes to wrap up the first set before dismissing the challenge of his 101st-ranked opponent entirely, cantering to a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 scoreline.

“I served well,” explained Murray afterwards,” I didn’t give him too many opportunities on my serve, which proved to be quite important as he played well in the second and third set.”

The fourth seed now faces another Frenchman, Michael Llodra, on Saturday and was expecting a much sterner test.

“The next round is tough,” he added. “[Llodra] has got a lot of flair so it will be a good match.”

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic continued his impressive title defence by dominating Columbia’s Santiago Giraldo, overturning an early break to record a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory.
