The world’s best Formula One racing drivers have come together to donate their race kits to spinal cord injury charity Wings for Life to raise money at this year’s Bonhams Automobilia Auction on 3rd December.
Race suits signed and worn by the six world champions on the 2012 circuit - Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen - will be showcased and auctioned to motoring fans by London’s prestigious auction house, Bonhams. Each race suit is complimented by other donations from the six drivers including pairs of signed race gloves and signed photographic prints.
All lots will be sold to the highest bidder at a live auction as part of Bonhams’ traditional end of year sale of Collectors’ Motor Cars and Automobilia. Buyers can bid online, by telephone or attend the event in person. All money raised from these unique Formula One items will be donated to Wings for Life to raise money for research into a cure for spinal cord injury.
Wings for Life fund cutting-edge research projects and clinical trials across the globe aimed at accelerating progress towards a cure for spinal cord injury. Wings for Life is the title charity partner of Red Bull Racing and their logo features on both Red Bull Racing cars. Red Bull Racing drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, along with Formula One legend David Coulthard, are also ambassadors for the Wings for Life charity.
Formula One World Champion and Wings for Life ambassador Sebastian Vettel commented, “It’s been one of the most competitive seasons for Formula One drivers but we’re all willing to come together to support a great cause which means something to everyone involved with motorsports. I’m proud to have donated my race suit and gloves worn during the first race of this season in Melbourne.”
Nikki Wilson, Head of Wings for Life UK added, “We’re hugely grateful to Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari and Lotus F1 for supporting this signature Wings for Life event. This is a dream come true for collectors – a chance to buy a full set race suits from the world’s best F1 drivers. We are confident that these amazing pieces will contribute to another successful year of fundraising for Wings for Life.”
