Manchester United are set to miss out on Brazilian starlet Leo Baptistao, with the forward poised to join Atletico Madrid.
The 20-year-old has been enjoying his breakout season in La Liga for Rayo Vallecano this campaign, garnering the attention of a number of suitors having found the back of the net on six occasions and providing five assists. Martin Ferguson, brother of Sir Alex, was reportedly present to watch the youngster in action last weekend against Getafe, and saw him supply Rayo’s third in a 3-1 win.
Spanish newspaper AS report that United may have missed out on the young Brazilian, who previously played alongside Neymar before making his move to Spain. Rayo’s club president was sighted at the Vincente Calderon just yesterday, believed to ironing out the details that will see Baptistao make the move to 2nd placed Atletico before the transfer window closes. The 20-year-old has a release clause of €8 million, but AS believe Diego Simeone’s side will get their man for just €4 million.
Scouts from Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers were also reportedly sighted at last week’s game, but it would appear Atletico have beaten their competition for the highly-rated youngster.
