Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor believes his strike partner Chrstian Benteke is capable of doing much better than Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur if he chooses to leave Villa Park.
The Belgian forward has been a revelation during a torrid season for Aston Villa, having delivered an immediate impact on English with 11 goals to his name already. The 21-year-old has often been the difference maker during Villa’s struggles this season, and his sparking form has inevitably led to reported interest from other Premier League clubs.
Both north London clubs have been linked with a summer move for Benteke to ease their own striking concerns, but Agbonlahor insists his teammate is capable of playing at higher level than Arsenal and Tottenham – but hopes he will remain at Villa Park for at least another season.
He’s one of the players of the season, for me, so far,” Agbonlahor said, ESPN report. “He’s going to get linked with the top clubs, especially because of his age. He’s young.
“He’s gifted in what he can do, so he’s going to be linked with a lot of clubs. I think he’s good enough for even higher than them (Arsenal and Tottenham). He has showed that by the way he plays with his composure for a big guy and he has quite a bit of pace as well.
“There are many aspects of his game that are at the top level but he’s still learning his trade here and enjoying his football, so hopefully he stays here.”
Aston Villa signed the Belgian powerhouse from Genk for £7 million, a price tag that looks like a bargain after the young forward’s first six months in England.
