Chelsea Seal Deal For Chilean Starlet

Chilean teenager Cristian Cuevas has revealed he has agreed to join Chelsea this summer for a reported fee of £1.7 million.

The winger travelled to London for trials with the Blues last November, and seemingly impressed the club’s scouts enough to prompt the club into securing the 17-year-old’s services. Cuevas is likely to see out the remainder of Chile’s Primera Division Apertura with his current club O’Higgins before making his move to south west London in June.

Cuevas himself revealed the details of the deal, stating, "Everything went very quickly and was resolved within a week," he told Chile's Radio Cooperativa, The Daily Star report.

"Chelsea have followed me for over a year and we finally reached an agreement."

"I'm taking English classes to learn the language as quickly as possible. It will be a big change for me.

Cuevas will join the likes of Angelo Henriquez as young Chileans who have been snapped up by Premier League giants. 18-year-old Henriquez joined Manchester United from Universidad de Chile last summer, and has since joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.
