Manchester United Full Back Looking To Surpass Alves & Maicon

Rafael de Silva has his eyes set on the right back position in the Brazil team for the 2014 World Cup.

Rafael has established himself as Manchester United's first choice in the right back position and feels that his game is maturing well under the guidance of the club and could see become the first choice Brazilian right back.

The 22 year old has always been know for his attacking prowess and has scored twice already this season for the Red Devils, but he believes he has matured into a much better defender.

He told ESPN, "I think they look at me differently now, the way I play for United has changed a little bit and I have scored some goals as well. But mature is the word. I always want the ball. Now I read the game more and know what the opposing player is going to do."

The 2014 World Cup will be in Rafael's homeland and there will be hot competition for positions in the squad, but the defender is hoping his constant improvement will see his selection.

"It is a big time for me. The World Cup is the big competition for Brazil and all the fans expect us to win. I am really looking forward to being there,” said the Brazilian.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Rafael is improving and has the makings of a great player. "He is maturing and learning all the time," the United manager said.

"Rafael has all the ingredients of a great player. He was quite impulsive and tended to over-commit himself. We have gone over it a few times but, bit by bit, it is coming together and he was easily our best player [on] Saturday."
