Newcastle Target Fires Hat-Trick to Continue Amazing Scoring Hot Streak

Heerenveen striker Bas Dost continued to impress at the weekend as he scored a hat-trick to help his club come from 2-0 against NEC Nijmegen to claim a dramatic late win.

The 22-year-old was last week revealed as a potential target for Newcastle United, with reports suggesting that chief scout Graham Carr was interested in bringing the striker to the Premier League

With Demba Ba having a release clause of just £7million there are worries that a club will lure the forward away from the Sport Direct Arena in the summer and the club may need to find a replacement.

Dost has now taken his tally to 24 goals in just 13 games as he continues to show that he is deadly in front of goal. His treble helped Heerenveen claim a 4-2 win and continue their push for Champions League football.

Heerenveen are now sixth in the league on 57 points, the same total as both PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente, while Feyenoord and second placed AZ Alkmaar are just one point above them.

While the Dutch club are pushing for European football, Newcastle are also looking  to achieve a place in next seasons Champions League. However, even if they do not finish in the top four there chances of a place in the Europa League where boosted at the weekend.

With Liverpool already in Europe, Tottenham are now guaranteed a place in the Europa League, meaning an extra position will become available in the league.

Should Newcastle move for the young Dutch striker then they may face some competition with Dost having hit 34 goals in 35 game this season to remain the top scorer in Holland.
