Norwich manager Chris Hughton is lining up a move for Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan.
The Irishman has been an important player for the Potters this season however his future at the Britannia Stadium is under threat with Norwich looking to swoop for his services.
And according to the Sentinel, Stoke City manager Mark Hughes would be willing to let the former Sheffield Wednesday man leave if he can secure a deal to bring Lee Cattermole to the club.
The Sunderland defensive midfielder has been subject of a bid from Hughes thought to be around £5million and a move could be imminent.
That has left Hughton closely monitoring the situation and would be ready to pounce if Cattermole joins the Staffordshire side.
Whelan has been part of the squad who won promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and has gone onto make 175 appearances for the club.
He also has achieved 53 caps for his country.
