Artur Boruc has said that Southampton can challenge for a top four place this season and may even become title challengers within a few years.
The Saints goalkeeper says he has always had dreams of playing in the Champions League and sees no reason as to why he can’t achieve that with Southampton.
Last season was the Saints’ first visit back to the Premier League since 2005 and they finished a solid yet unremarkable 14th.
However, Boruc is confident they can challenge the top teams ahead of their match with Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday, the Daily Star reports.
"It might sound weird, but if you really, really think about this, I would not say we are worse than any other team in England, so why not?" said Boruc.
"If we're going to work hard, if we are going to believe in our work, we may be there.
"I am always dreaming about the Champions League. Obviously it is going to be tough but I think there is a chance towards the top of the league.”
He also believes the title could be a real possibility in the future having never won the top flight title.
"I mean, why not win the title in the future? It sounds like something unbelievable and now it may be, but if you believe, it may happen. We do believe so hard we can achieve it."
Southampton currently sit 11th having won one, drawn two and lost one.
Like many teams this season they have struggled to find the net and will be calling on England international Rickie Lambert to step up and score at Anfield on Saturday.
