Tottenham's reported pursuit of Christopher Samba has been given a boost after it was revealed Blackburn will be forced to sell their star players in January due to financial restrictions.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is keen to recruit a new centre-back - as well as a new striker - and Samba is thought to be top of the list.
And according to the Daily Express, his chances of taking the Congolese defender to White Hart Lane have been significantly improved with the news Blackburn have failed to pay a reported £10m to the bank.
It means that Rovers boss Steve Kean must reluctantly sell his top players if he is to recruit new players for the club's relegation battle.
Samba, attacker Junior Hoillett and midfielder Steven N'Zonzi will reportedly be made available to interested clubs in January as the Premier League strugglers desperately find ways to raise cash.
And the Express claims Redknapp will take advantage of Blackburn's troubles and lodge an £8m bid for 27-year-old Samba and could offer Sebastian Bassong to the Ewood Park club as a makeshift in the deal.
