Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of luring Brazilian star Willian may have been dealt a blow, as Inter Milan prepare to enter the race for the Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker.
Italian news outlet Tuttosport claim the Nerazzurri have made the attacking midfielder a priority signing as the future of Wesley Sneijder falls into greater doubt. It is claimed that Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has made contact with Willian’s lawyer and representative Alexandre Soares in hope of concluding a deal.
Inter are keen to offload Sneijder, who was a long-term target of Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United not too long ago, and move for the Shakhtar star, but a deal may hinge on whether or not Andrea Stramaccioni and Inter can find a buyer for the Dutchman. Russian giants Anzhi have inevitably been linked with a move, but interest from the Premier League has steadily waned over the past two years.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Willian, who has often spoke of his admiration of English football. Andre Villas-Boas had previously tried to bring the player to Stamford Bridge while manager of Chelsea in 2011, and again pursued the Brazilian this summer, after taking the reins at White Hart Lane.
