Real Madrid’s director of football Zinedine Zidane travelled to Lyon last night to watch over the performance of Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale.
Spanish newspaper AS report that the World Cup winner, who regularly travels to the French city to sit exams for his coaching certificate, was present at the Stade Gerland to see Spurs clinch a last minute equalizer to send them through to the next round of the Europa League.
Wales international Bale has continued to attract the attention of Europe’s elite with another stunning season. The winger’s two magnificent free kicks in the first leg of the last 32 clash with Lyon proved to be pivotal, with the north London club scraping through on away goals with things tied at 3-3 over two legs.
Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the Welshman with reports of a summer bid regularly doing the rounds. The presence of Zidane, who recommended young centre back Raphael Varane to the Real Madrid hierarchy while the youngster was impressing for RC Lens, is likely to stir up suggestions of a scouting mission, although the former France international appears to be set on moving into a coaching role rather than a scouting one.
