Sports star Gail Emms is backing Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and wants everyone to make this year’s the best ever.
The badminton Olympic silver medallist , who is seven months pregnant with her second child, is a staunch supporter of Race for Life and is issuing the rallying cry “Cancer, we’re coming to get you!” as she urges mums, daughters, sisters and friends to join in Race for Life taking place across the UK this summer.
Gail said: “Sadly cancer is an awful disease which affects so many families. I am patron of a breast cancer support group in the area and I have seen the devastation a cancer diagnosis can cause.
“But I also know that many more people are alive today thanks to the invaluable research done by organisations such as Cancer Research UK. I am hoping that, in my children’s lifetime, we will have got cancer on the run.
“Research beats cancer and that is why I’m proud to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, which raises millions for vital research. Every single person who runs, jogs or walks at Race for Life is so important in helping to beat cancer so please join up now.”
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research into all types of cancer.
Gemma Kitching, an Event Manager for Race for Life, said: “We’re so grateful to Gail for supporting Race for Life. Gail is a sporting superstar but Race for Life truly is for everybody. Women can choose whether to walk, jog or run the 5k or 10k route. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.
“Women come from different backgrounds and walks of life but they are united by their absolute determination to take on cancer and beat it.”
