Tokyo has been announced as the hosts of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games beating Madrid and Istanbul to the vote.
The Japanese capital has hosted the games once before back in 1964.
The bidding party were sent into incredible celebrations when their city was announced on Saturday as the winners of the bid.
Tokyo had to fight off Madrid and Istanbul who culminated the same amount of votes in the first round of voting – a tie-break eventually eliminating Madrid for the final vote.
In the final round of voting Tokyo won 60 to 36 despite the worry over chemical leaks at Fukushima nuclear plant 150 miles from the capital.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has vowed to rectify the situation at Fukushima before the games come to Tokyo.
“I shall take the responsibility to implement programmes to render this situation completely problem-free and I say that most emphatically and unequivocally.”
They now have seven years to prepare for the games with Rio set to follow London in 2016.
Great Britain won just four gold medals back in 1964 but will be aiming for more than seven times that amount having picked up 29 on home soil in 2012.
