PHIL BROWNPhilip grew up in Canberra, Australia and got his first camera in Fiji (Olympus) during a Pacific cruise in the early seventies. He was overjoyed after getting his prints back to see that he had a most spectacular shot of the sun setting next to the cruise ship. It was then pointed out that it was actually one of his fingers that had been loitering in front of the lens. Oh well.
In the eighties he began photographing basketball and rugby and was pleasantly surprised when people started paying to use these pictures in newspapers and programmes.
By 1986 Philip had moved to Sydney and was working for "Rugby League Week" and various newspapers covering both sport and news.
In 1988 he moved to London and was soon covering the 1989 Ashes cricket tour and starting to specialise in cricket. He has since covered well over a hundred Test matches but has never worked out exactly how many he has covered. He has contributed to many books, magazines and newspapers and has edited two books - "Cricket, celebrating the modern game around the world" and "England Rugby World Champions" for publisher Mitchell Beazley.
He continues to photograph cricket most days during the summer and in some exotic locations during the English winter. More of his photographs and publications may be viewed at http://www.philipbrownphotos.com
