Podolski Critical Of Wenger Following Arsenal Exit
Lukas Podolski has taken a swipe at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger just days after completing his loan move to Inter Milan.
åÊ
The German international, who struggled for playing time this season, feels Wenger showed him a lack of respect, the Daily Mail reports.
åÊ
“For me respect is everything,” said the 29-year-old. “I don’t need flowers or a kiss from him but it is about respect, about saying goodbye.
åÊ
“He said nothing to me. He did not call me or say goodbye.
åÊ
“I did everything for the club I possibly could have. I don’t believe I did anything wrong. I did not get drunk in a club.”
åÊ
Podolski signed for Arsenal in 2012 and became a hit in his first season by scoring 16 goals from out wide, although his second campaign was hampered by injury problems.
åÊ
This season, he failed to start a game in the Premier League following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, with Wenger also opting for Yaya Sanogo upfront on occasions.
åÊ
That decision led to the Gunners’ manager receiving heavy criticism considering Podolski’s pedigree was first formed as a striker at Cologne.
åÊ
Regardless, Podolski will likely to be able to play on a weekly basis for Inter, who have also signed a temporary deal for Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich.
