England Lose Tri-Series Opener

The Irish-born batsman took over from Alastair Cook after the Essex star was dropped from the World Cup squad, and will lead the side in the tournament starting next month.

But a spirited 121 by the skipper was not enough to lead his side to glory, with England only able to register 234 from their innings.

Australian batsman David Warner destroyed MorganÛªs bowling attack, making 127 as the hosts reached their target with over 10 overs still to play.

England slumped to 0-2 in just three balls at the start of their innings, with Ian Bell and James Taylor failing to trouble the scoreboard. Opener Moeen Ali managed to hit 22, but Morgan spared the visitors blushes with an incredible knock of 121 from just 136 balls.

Chris Woakes took 4-40 in the AussieÛªs response, but an incredible innings from Warner immediately took the game out of EnglandÛªs reach.

Peter MooresÛª side will now take on India in Tuesday as they look to get their series back on track.
