Carl Froch and Bernard Hopkins are reportedly set to go toe to toe this year, in Hopkins’ first fight since turning 50.
The Cobra had been set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr this spring, but an injury to Froch among many reported legal issues has seen the fight placed on the backburner.
The Daily Mail report that the mega fight between Froch and former IBF middleweight Champion Hopkins is set to go ahead this summer, with the contest either taking place at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground or the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Froch himself has confirmed his interest in the fight, and Hopkins is equally eager to step into the ring. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Nottinghamshire man said: ÛÏI am aware of the situation with Hopkins and I am very interested in that fight.
ÛÏTo say that Hopkins is interested would be a substantial understatement. He told me recently: Û÷This would be a great fight wherever it happens. If itÛªs in England IÛªd happily take a boat to get over thereÛ.
The news of the planned bout comes after Hopkins confirmed his desire for Û÷at least one more fightÛª as a 50-year-old. The veteran American is reportedly willing to step down to super-middleweight in order to fight Froch.
