Maria Sharapova Was Warned Five Times Over Banned Substance Before Drugs Test Failure
Tennis star Maria Sharapova was allegedly warned five times about Meldonium being a banned substance before she was found to have failed a drugs text, according to The Telegraph.

The 28-year-old revealed on Monday that she had tested positive for a banned substance that she claimed to have been taking regularly for the past ten years (via Telegraph).

And it seems that she is now facing more questions over her confession after it transpired that she was warned about the drug by the tennis authorities on numerous occasions about it becoming a banned substance before January 1 of this year.

Sharapova had claimed that she was unaware of the change in the drug’s status, though this has been met by heavy criticism from the World Anti-Doping Agency founding president Dick Pound.

“All the tennis players were given notification of it and she has a medical team somewhere. That is reckless beyond description,” Pound said.

The revelation has seen Sharapova’s reputation crumble and she has already lost a number of of her big money sponsorship deals (via CNN).
