Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo took a turn into some fast and funny questions, as the popular Australian found his FaceTimeTM ringing off the hook in a live chat with fans. Hundreds of motorsport supporters from around the world tried to dial in to quiz their racing idol and for a lucky few, a dream came true after speaking face-to-face with the five-time Grand Prix winner.

Daniel followed in the footsteps of his teammate, Max Verstappen, who answered fans’ questions through FaceTime at the China GP. Mobil 1 and Esso wanted to give supporters the same once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to speak live to Daniel by using the hashtag #SpeedDialDaniel. All the eager fans had to do was call in at the right time.

Fans wanted to know as much about the man off the track as the world-class driver behind the wheel, with Daniel getting quizzed about Kylie Minogue and whom he would want on a desert island. The fascinating range of questions didn’t stop there, with admirers managing to cover Red Bull Racing teammate, Max Verstappen and quokkas.

Daniel Ricciardo commented, “It was really good fun. I literally had no idea what question would come next so there was a real element of the unknown about it.  The questions were certainly different to what I’m used to being asked and some of the reactions we got were hilarious.  It was cool, I hope the lucky few who got through enjoyed it too.”

On the #SpeedDialDaniel concept, Daniel added “Obviously for Esso and Mobil 1, their core aim with Red Bull Racing is to help us make the car go faster.  Speaking to my engineers, it’s pretty clear that they’ve done a great job on that front so far, so long may that continue!  But it’s nice that they have chosen to use their time with me and Max to give fans the chance to have some face time with us both.  The fans are a big part of the sport and it’s great for us to be able to hook up with them wherever we can.  It’s been good fun.”

Commenting on the season so far, Daniel said: “We’re really starting to pick up some momentum after taking some podiums and obviously the win in Baku was a great result for the team. Performance from the car is increasing all the time, especially with the gains that are being made from our Technology Partners Esso and Mobil 1, so we’re optimistic.  There’s more on the way and the whole team will be pushing extremely hard for even better results in the second half of the season.”
