QIPCO British Champions Day ambassador Adam Gemili, who was a member of the triumphant Gold medal winning relay team at the World Athletics Championships will make the presentation to this year’s Stobart Champion Flat Jockey, Silvestre De Sousa, at Ascot on Saturday 21st October.

Gemili was part of the 4x100m relay that included CJ Ujah, Daniel Talbot and Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake and which broke the British and European records when claiming gold in London in August. He will make the presentation alongside Andrew Tinkler, of Stobart Group, generous sponsors of the Jockeys’ Championship.

Gemili said, “It was incredible to win the gold medal in a world-leading time and at our home World Championships – it’s a day I’ll never forget. I’ve had some time off since then but am really looking forward to coming to QIPCO British Champions Day again this year.

“As athletes we train really hard but we don’t compete every day like the jockeys do. Silvestre has obviously really pushed himself during the Championship, riding in over 830 races so I am looking forward to making the presentation to him and congratulating him on all his success this year.”

Silvestre De Sousa is the runaway winner of this year’s Stobart Champion Flat Jockey title, regaining the crown he won in 2015 and currently on 151 winners for the Championship period:

He has been in imperious form this season, having taken the lead in the title race in early June and not having ceded the lead since then. Download the Silvestre De Sousa press pack here.

The presentation will be made in the parade ring at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day at 2.15pm, straight after the second race and will be broadcast live on ITV.
