Bridgestone, the world’s number one tyre and rubber company1, and Worldwide Olympic Partner, teamed up with double Olympic gold medalist, Daley Thompson, toencourage people to keep moving and chasing their dreams, whatever their age with a pop-up gym on London’s Southbank which marked and celebrated his 60thbirthday.
The gym, which was open for one day only, was set-up on the Riverside Grass, Southbank, London on Tuesday 14th August and was part of Bridgestone’s Olympic partnership campaign, Chase Your Dream, No Matter What. The motivational campaign aims to inspire people of all ages, abilities and passions to keep chasing their dream, no matter what.
Over 100 people of all ages each took part in a High Intensity Interval Training workout which had been especially designed by Daley Thompson. The workout was made up of ten different exercises, ranging from box jumps, press-ups, shuttle runs to sit-ups, with each one completed for 60 seconds at a time.
The Olympian, whose self-belief and focused attitude was key to his successful athletics career, was on hand throughout the day to encourage, inspire and show all those who took part that, whether it’s a work-out or overcoming life’s obstacles, with the right attitude and mindset, you can get through anything and achieve your dreams at any age.
The pop-up gym also reunited him with a group people from around the UK with whom he climbed Snowdon at the start of June. 60 people aged 60 years old or over took part this unique experience as part of the Chase Your Dream, No Matter What campaign. A short film of this achievement, which celebrates people’s spirit and perseverance, regardless of their age, was shown for the first time at the gym activation.
Double Olympic gold medalist, Daley Thompson, said
“I have loved having my own pop-up gym here on the Southbank today with Bridgestone and meeting everyone who have enthusiastically come down and taken part.
It’s why I am proud to be part of Bridgestone’s Olympic partnership campaign, Chase Your Dream, No Matter What as I believe we all have the strength, no matter what our age, to keep chasing our dreams, despite the obstacles life throws at us.
Participant Meg Martin, 63 from Essex, who took part in the climb up Snowdon said of viewing the film at the gym for the first time”
“It was really nice to remember it. It was a fantastic day. It was really good to see people who had obviously never done anything like it before but they still got to the top and still got down again. Great result and I thought Daley was very motivating.”
Of her time working out at the pop-up gym with Daley she said:
“It was Just good fun and it shows a lot of us have a very competitive spirit too. Everyone was so motivating. It was great fun, to come together, do something slightly different and see each other again. Roll on life’s next challenge, whatever it is!”
