Leighton Bennett has become the youngest ever winner of the BDO World Youth Championship aged just 13.

On his TV debut the young Englishman put on a show despatching Scotsman Nathan Girvan 3-0 in the final at Lakeside to claim the £5,000 prize.

‘Boom Boom’ Bennett triumphed emphatically over the two-time finalist Girvan whilst being watched over by mentor Rob Cross, winner of the 2018 PDC World Darts Championships.

Bennett wasn’t as surprised as many fans at his victory suggesting:

“It’s absolutely awesome, it’s a dream come true.

“I’ve just put the work in and it’s paid off. I knew I was going to be up against a tough player but I knew if I played my ‘A’ game I could do it, and I did.”
The Lincolnshire talent becomes only the second English winner of the trophy since its inception in 2015, with the youngster hitting a brilliant 121 to seal his victory.
It remains to be seen whats next for young Bennett, with many now tipping him to reach the heights of the darts world in the coming years.
