Myles McDevitt – UCFB Wembley

Here it is then. Wales face England in Cardiff in a match that will likely determine the outcome of who wins the Six Nations. Both teams are unbeaten and victory in this fixture will give the winner huge promise as the World Cup draws nearer.

Here are five of the best Wales vs England Matches in the Six Nations:

  1. Wales vs England 2001- Wales 15- England 44

This was a runaway victory for England with Will Greenwood on hand to score three tries on this day. Matt Dawson scored two and Ben Cohen scored one but it was Greenwood who set Cardiff alight as England started another quest to win the Six Nations which they did but lost to Ireland which left them without the Grand Slam.

  1. England vs Wales 2008- England 19- Wales 26

England’s first fixture since the 2007 World Cup Final was painful whilst for Wales’s new head coach Warren Gatland the sweet taste of victory. Leading 16-6 at half time, mistakes from England gave Wales one of their greatest victories over England with Mike Phillips and Lee Byrne scoring the tries with a Man Of The Match by James Hook on the kicking tee.  It was Wales’s first victory at Twickenham since 1988 and then went on that year to win the Grand Slam.

  1. Wales vs England 2013- Wales 30- England 3

A rout of epic proportions. England came to Cardiff looking for the Grand Slam but they were blown away by Wales. It was close at half time but Leigh Halfpenny’s excellent kicking and Alex Cuthbert’s scorching pace sent the Millennium Stadium into ecstasy as Wales captured the Six Nations from England’s grasp on the last day of the 2013 Championship.

  1. England vs Wales 2016- England 25- Wales 21

A few months previously, England’s World Cup was ended by Wales at Twickenham. This was a revenge mission and England were on top for sixty minutes but Wales came back like they did in the World Cup game. However, England held on for victory including a talismanic performance from Maro Itoje which gave England the Triple Crown and the Grand Slam a week later in Paris against France.

  1. Wales vs England 2017- Wales 16- England 21

England were on a roll under Eddie Jones and this game looked to be Wales for the        taking but Jonathan Davies misfire kick let England launch an attack to see Elliot Daly in at the corner and send the travelling supporters home happy although Wales had played well for a good part of the match with a well-taken try by Liam Williams. England were Six Nations champions that year but without a Grand Slam.
