AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is hoping lightning strikes twice when his players return to Spain’s La Manga Club for a warm-weather training camp this week.

Eager to make a fast start last season, the Cherries boss took his squad to the world-renowned  sports and leisure resort for the first time 12 months ago and was rewarded as his team made their best-ever opening to a Premier League campaign.

Bournemouth won six of their first 10 games, taking 20 points out of a possible 30, and Howe is delighted to be returning to La Manga Club for another week as he steps up his side’s preparations  ahead of the opening game of the season at home to Sheffield United on August 10.

He said: “We had a really good time at La Manga Club last summer and we worked incredibly hard. The facilities were brilliant, the people were excellent and everything there – we felt really did help us. It enabled us to get off to a great start of the season.

“The facilities, the hotel, the shortness of the trip from the hotel to the training ground; everything there was superb and we were catered for very well, so it enabled us to help build the team spirit and get everyone fit and firing in the same direction.

“We’re going to be working on all areas during this pre-season, I’d be foolish to say there’s just one in particular. Everyone from the outside may point to one specific thing but in my shoes if you neglect any then you will come up short.

“The aim is to improve the team ahead of the start of the season and we’re really excited to be back. It’s a great part of the season as a coach as we emphasise our philosophy and how we want the players to play this season.”

Bournemouth will be staying at La Manga Club from July 10-17, and are just one of the clubs using the resort’s world-class facilities to prepare for the start of the new season, with other visiting teams including Everton’s Under-23 side, Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Swindon, AFC Wimbledon and Partick Thistle.

As well as having the chance to enjoy the full array of La Manga Club’s football facilities – which include eight FIFA-approved full-size grass pitches – the sides will also take advantage of the resort’s other first-class sports amenities including its High Performance Centre and Wellness Centre featuring the latest gym technology.

Situated in Murcia, south-east Spain, and enjoying 300 days’ sunshine a year, La Manga Club’s global reputation as a market leader for football training breaks continues to grow, with its climate and outstanding facilities making it the perfect destination for a warm-weather camp.

Also home to the only Chelsea FC Foundation Soccer School in Spain, La Manga Club’s comprehensive other facilities include three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm Wellness Centre. In addition, the resort offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 15 bars and restaurants.
