The football season is hotting up at La Manga Club with the Chile national squad using the top Spanish resort as a base to prepare for international friendlies against Colombia and Guinea this month.

Reinaldo Rueda’s team spent 10 days staying and training at the iconic resort in readiness for La Roja’s goalless draw against Columbia and their 3-2 victory over Guinea.

The Chile boss named a strong squad for the two games in Alicante, with Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, Inter Milan’s on-loan Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo all included.

As well as enjoying the full array of La Manga Club’s football facilities – which include eight FIFA-approved full-size grass pitches – Chile will have the chance to take advantage of the resort’s other first-class sports amenities including its High Performance Centre and Wellness Centre featuring the latest gym technology.

Iván Gómez, commercial director of football at La Manga Club, said: “It was a real pleasure and honour for La Manga Club to have the Chile team stay with us for 10 days and use the resort as its base for these two games.

“They are a team that is packed with world-class players and talent, and having them visit and use our extensive facilities is a further illustration of the worldwide appeal of the resort as a warm-weather football destination.”

The likes of Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Swindon, AFC Wimbledon and Partick Thistle all used La Manga Club this summer to help prepare for the new season and Chile’s visit signals the start of a busy period, with around 75 clubs and national teams set to hold warm-weather training breaks at the resort over the winter.

Situated in Murcia, south-east Spain, and enjoying 300 days’ sunshine a year, La Manga Club’s global reputation as a market leader for football training breaks continues to grow, with its climate and outstanding facilities making it the perfect destination for a warm-weather camp.

Also home to the only Chelsea FC Foundation Soccer School in Spain, La Manga Club’s comprehensive other facilities include three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm Wellness Centre. In addition, the resort offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 15 bars and restaurants.
