Velocity Commerce, the online marketplace specialist based in Cambridge, UK, has kicked off a new initiative to sponsor up-and-coming sports teams and community causes from across the UK; pledging to announce new partnerships with grassroots teams and clubs on a regular basis throughout 2020.
The first partnership announced under the new initiative, called #BackedByVelocity, is with Leeds Beckett University Rugby team, which will be sponsored by Velocity Commerce for a season. Under the partnership, Velocity Commerce has donated £6,000, which has provided the team with a brand-new kit and throughout the season will cover the costs of travel, medical staff, and general team admin. Also, throughout the duration of the partnership a Velocity ‘Player of the Match’ will be chosen, and the selected player will be able to choose an item of choice from Velocity Commerce’s eBay store.
The opportunity to be #BackedByVelocity is now open to grassroots sports teams and community clubs nationwide. Teams and worthy causes looking for funding can get in touch with Velocity Commerce via an application form on its website. Clubs and teams can be part of a school, college or university, or can be run by the local community, and funding can be for anything, big or small, depending on the needs of the club, from new kit and equipment, to travel expenses, to the costs of training sessions.
Eddie Latham, Co-founder and Director, Velocity Commerce, comments: “Here at Velocity Commerce we’re a team of former underdogs, who worked hard to get to the top of our game. And it’s because of this start, that we’re passionate about helping others to do the same. By supporting a variety of community clubs and sports teams from all over the UK, we hope to have a wide reaching impact, helping as many up and coming talents as possible, with whatever it is that makes them tick.”
Velocity Commerce is accepting applications throughout 2020, and teams and clubs will be selected based on level of need and community impact.
