Solheim Cup captain and former British Open champion Catriona Matthew OBE will be the host for the second Sebahat Özaltin International Ladies Golf Trophy, at Gloria Golf Club, Turkey, in March.

The event, from March 7 to 14, is organised in the name of Sebahat Özaltın, wife of the late founder and chairman of Özaltın Holding – the owner of Gloria Hotels & Resorts – Nuri Özaltın.

Matthew, who captained Europe’s successful Solheim Cup team in 2019 and will look to repeat her victory at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, next year, will host the event and also hold a golf clinic and the ladies will have the opportunity to challenge Mathew in a special nearest-the-pin competition during the week, which has attracted 100 female golfers from 12 countries.

Packages for the competition week – held to mark International Women’s Day, which takes place on March 8 – start at €1,065, per person, and include seven nights’ all-inclusive accommodation at the Gloria Serenity Resort and a minimum of four rounds of golf.

Additionally, competitors will also enjoy daily on-course prizes; a gala dinner; complimentary buggy use on tournament days; complimentary food and beverage at the golf club on tournament days; 20 per cent discount on spa treatments and pro-shop purchases; and the option of an extra pre-competition round of golf.

The tournament is played out on Gloria GC’s two Michael Gayon-designed courses: the Old and the New, both of which have staged events on the European Challenge Tour.

The Old Course opened for play in 1997, and is regarded as one of the finest layouts in the region. It’s also one of the country’s oldest courses and is also just a few minutes away from any of the hotel receptions with regular shuttle transfers from door to door.

The layout sits in impressive surroundings, at the foot of the imposing Taurus Mountains and winds its way through the forest offering an idyllic setting. Many of the holes encompass a risk-and-reward test, but the course is kept in superb condition with fluffy fairways and generally fast, true greens.

The high level of maintenance is consistent on the New Course, which was added to the resort in 2005. Although it is generally seen as less punishing than the Old Course – simply it allows more margin for error from the tee – the newer addition also poses a stern examination of all facets of a player’s game with an abundance of water and clever bunkering.

Completing Gloria GC’s offering for visitors is the tricky, nine-hole Verde Course, an ideal added extra for a quick round while remaining true to the feel of the other two courses.

Situated less than half an hour from Antalya International Airport, the stunning luxury resort will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022 and offers a wide range of accommodation with three luxurious and stylish five-star resorts on the beach: Gloria Golf ResortGloria Verde Resort and Gloria Serenity Resort, where guests will be accommodated.

In addition, the Gloria Sports Arena – built over an area of 105,000m2 – offers a state-of-the-art venue for more than 50 indoor, outdoor and aquatic sports with exceptional rehabilitation and physical conditioning facilities for elite athletes and is a regular training base for some of the world’s top sporting teams and individuals.
